Northwind Avalanche and Weather Services has operated in Whitehorse, Yukon since 2011. Our services include recreational avalanche training, weather forecasting, climactic analysis and forensic meteorology, and we have worked with a wide variety of clients and industries throughout western Canada.

We are not delivering any public courses for winter 2023-24 but hope to be back in action next year. Other local providers are listed on the YAA Page and on Avalanche.ca
Weather and Climate Services
We are experienced with operational weather forecasting, climactic analysis, forensic meteorology and data acquisition and management and strive to provide our clients with a quality product. We have extensive experience working with other experts such as hydrologists and emergency managers and will be happy to work alongside experts within your own organization.

About Us
The principal, Mike Smith, holds an MSc in Atmospheric Sciences from Colorado State University and a PhD in Avalanche Mechanics from the University of Calgary. His experience includes work in operational forecasting, climactic analysis, academia and emergency management. He is a member of the following organizations and associations:
- Canadian Avalanche Association (Professional Member)
- Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society
- American Meteorological Society
- International Association of Wildland Fire
Our Avalanche instructors are all Active or Professional members of the Canadian Avalanche Association.
